Hi there, I am Haktan, a Biochemistry major at UCLA. My story is about appreciating the mechanisms of living by studying the biological and chemical pathways that bring us to life. I want to dive into cellular metabolism which intersects my two favorite disciplines.
I am researching sex differences in lysosomal genes and FMRP regulated lysosomal RNAs in the Erbay Lab over at UCLA Center for Health Sciences. I compete internationally and staff conferences for Model United Nations at UCLA. I learn more about the UN and other international organizations at the United Nations Association because I value these initiatives as a prospective doctor. Getting an international overview of my field is just as important as working with my individual patients, because in the end, my goal is to become a doctor for humanity.
